The China Gampaign Committee
In connection with the meeting held in Trafalgar Square on October 10th emphasis was laid upon the desirability of keeping the appeal for funds for the relief of distress in China free from political connotations and activities.
In this connection Mr. Gull informed the Committee that he had received, but not yet replied to, a letter from the China Campaign Committee - which organized the Trafalgar Square meeting inviting the co-operation of the China Association with them. He informed the Committee of the circumstances from which this offer had resulted, and asked its advice.
It was decided for the time being to le ave the matter in abeyance.
Medical Supplies for China.
Dame Rachel Crowdy expressed her anxiety for action in respect of assistance for China in the form of medical supplies.
Mr. Gull referred to a shipment of supplies for the Lester Hospital for Chinese in Shanghai made possible by the generosity of Sir Abe Bailey, and by his willingness to earmark a portion of the cheque for £1,000 which he had declared his intention of sending to the Lord Mayor, this earmarking having been done before the cheque was sent. Mr. Hersee said that a cheque so earmarked had been received at the Mansion House. The earmarked amount, £275, had, Mr. Gull said, been in part expended upon the shipment referred to.
At the suggestion of Dame Rachel Crowdy it was agreed that Sir Harold Fawcus should get into touch with Mr. Walter Elliot regarding the Anti-Epidemic Department of the League of Nations.
It was agreed that the next meeting of the Executive Committee should be held on October 19th at 3 p.m. at 14, Grosvenor Crescent.
This concluded the business of the meeting which terminated at 6 p.m.
